Just when I think I’ve heard it all, some nitwit comes up with something that even I could never have imagined! All too often, the nitwit of the moment is either a politician, or a judge. Many times their actions are aggravating, even infuriating, but every once in a while, they come out with something that is downright sick!
Take the case of a man living in Bayonne, New Jersey, who was accused of raping his nineteen year old estranged wife.
According to news reports, the couple, both from Morocco, wed in an arranged marriage in 2008, when the bride was seventeen years old. After the marriage, they moved to New Jersey, where the wife reported that she endured physical abuse (in the form of beatings, being pinched on her breasts and genitals hard enough to leave bruises, and being denied food), along with marital rape on almost a daily basis, as “punishment” for a written list of sins her husband gave her, that included not knowing how to cook, and not cleaning house to his satisfaction.
The wife, who was unidentified in court documents to protect her identity, filed for divorce, and sought a restraining order against him.
When his day in court came, this slime ball’s defense was that, as a Muslim, his religion gave him the right to sex on demand and complete control of his wife. And the idiot presiding over the trial agreed with him! Apparently, it wasn’t rape, it was just religious expression. How sick is that?
Judge Joseph Charles denied the woman’s request for the restraining order after her divorce, agreeing that evidence showed the defendant had assaulted her, but he still issued a ruling that the husband was acting under his religious belief that his desire to have sex with the woman whenever he wanted to was something that was consistent with his religion, and it therefore was not prohibited.
Have we sunken so low in this country, in our eternal quest to kiss the entire world’s butt, that we now condone rape just so we don’t offend the wackos of the world? Here’s an idea – how about we send that judge to prison and make him share a cell with a pervert who believes that his religion allows him to rape complete airheads? Doesn’t that seem fair to you?
Fortunately, an appeals court overruled the original judge’s decision, but it should scare the hell out of every one of us, male or female, to know that people like that are presiding over courtrooms nationwide, issuing rulings that can affect any one of us at any time.
