Reading the news and watching television could lead one to believe that God must hate women! Every time I turn around, some lunatic is abusing women and young girls, and claiming that he is only following God’s orders.
Consider Brian David Mitchell, who was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and repeatedly raping Elizabeth Smart, whom he abducted from her Salt Lake City, Utah bedroom when she was just 14 years old, forcing her into a “spiritual” polygamous marriage and keeping her for nine months before she was recognized and rescued. Mitchell, a self-described prophet, claimed he was only following God’s direction in committing his crimes.
Then we have Phillip Garrido, the sicko who, along with his wife, Nancy Bocanegra, kidnapped 11 year old Jaycee Dugard, and held her prisoner for 18 years, raping her repeatedly and fathering two children with her. Garrido, a felon with a long history of sexual offenses, was another “prophet” who had dreamed up his own God’s Desire Church.
This week, Warren Jeffs, leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS), a radical offshoot of the Mormon Church, was convicted of raping two young girls, ages 12 and 15, after forcing them into “spiritual” polygamous marriages. Part of the evidence used during the trial was an audio recording of Jeffs raping the 12 year old, and another in which he is instructing several of his young wives in how to please him sexually, “for the glory of God.” The 10,000 members of the FLDS believe Jeffs is God’s spokesman on earth.
How come each one of these sick bastards, and many more just like them through the ages, all invoke God’s name as an excuse for their depravity? Does God really hate women that much?
I don’t believe He (or She) does. I don’t believe God speaks to monsters like this. But if He does, I hope right now He’s whispering in the ear of some big, nasty syphilitic convict named Bubba, telling him all about the new cellmate bride that is coming his way!
